For the exhibition, Nobody Sees a Flower by the 44.4 Mother/Artist Collective at the Ottawa Art Gallery, March 1-31. Inspired by Georgia OKeeffe’s painting, Jimson Weed/White Flower No.1, which sold for $44.4 million (the highest selling work by a female artist to date). O’Keeffe never had children despite wanting them, because she did not believe motherhood and artmaking were compatible. She once said "When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment.” I imagine the flower and motherhood as synonymous, but of the two only the mother fully understands the immersive and transformative experience of becoming someone’s entire world.
